A SMALL, HONEST FORECAST
Rain moves.
It also changes.
This prototype follows existing radar echoes for up to 60 minutes. It cannot see a shower before it develops or reliably predict growth and decay.
Rates are a liquid-rain approximation from radar reflectivity, not calibrated measurements at the ground. Radar can also detect hail, snow and false echoes.
How arrival and clearing are estimated
Four consecutive scans estimate a single regional movement. A 0.2 mm/h approximate threshold lasting two five-minute steps marks an arrival. Clearing requires two steps below that threshold after an echo. Timing windows vary motion speed by ±25% and add five minutes; they are sensitivity ranges, not confidence intervals.
Coverage and GPS precision
Only Shannon and Dublin radar are included. UK radar shown on some Met Éireann web maps is not included. Missing bins, old scans, unusual echoes and points beyond 200 km from a radar pause timing. Radar resolution and beam height matter more than precise GPS; a location accurate only to more than 10 km also pauses timing.
Measured skill against persistence
Evaluation is pending. No verified accuracy claim is made.
